Highway to Health: Jewish Family & Children's Services in cooperation with Flint and Vacinity Action Community Economic Development Corporation, have implemented a transportation program to transport patients of Genesee County for treatment out of the county. Vision and Hearing Clinics: Twice a year we hold a vision and hearing clinic here at the Center sponsored by local doctors' offices. Notices are in the monthly newsletter and posted.
Heating Assistance: Michigan senior citizens, low income families, and unemployed residents can apply for assistance in paying utility bills. The Michigan Public Service Commission's "Be Winter Wise" program provides winter utility shut off protection during the winter months. The Michigan Public Service Commission and the utility companies want to help customers. If you think you may need help paying utility bills call the Consumer's Energy Co. to enroll in one or more of the "Be Winter Wise" programs.
Do Not Resusitate: This law is fairly new on the books and allows terminally ill to complete a do-not-resusitate medical form. They could also wear an optional bracelet. Ambulance crews would not resusitate if there is no pulse or breathing with one of these present. For more information call the Center.
Sunshine is Spread: Cards are sent to those who are ill or have lost a loved one. If you know of someone who is ill, had surgery, or lost a loved one, please call the Center at 658-1566.
Handicap Loan Closet: We have many items to loan out such as wheel chairs, walkers, canes, commodes, bath aids and other medical items. There is a $25.00 deposit which is refunded when the item/items are returned.
KISS Hotline: The KISS Program is a telephone assurance program designed to keep senior citizens safe and independent. For more information call RSVP at 760-1092.
Assistance at the Pumps: 81 counties in Michigan have volunteered to pump gasoline for handicappers at no more than self-serve prices.The services are available to handicappers with a valid permit or plate who has no one one else in the car to assist. Some local gas stations will pump for senior citizens. Ask at the station before you purchase.
Talking Books: If you are unable to read regular print, you should know about Talking Books. Contact the library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped at (810) 732-1120.
There's also a program available for the seeing impaired called "Newspapers for the Blind". You may call to have the newspaper or parts of the paper read to you each day by calling 762-3656.
Commodity Supplemental Food Program: CSFP is a govermental surplus program available to seniors over 60 who meet the following guidelines: Single - $893.00 mo., couple - $1,198.00. The Center provides this program on the third Friday of each month.
Senior & Kosher Meals on Wheels: The Senior Food Program of Genesee County offers homebound meals and the Jewish Federation offers Kosher meals. It is available to any resident of the county over 60 or their spouse. The cost is $1.75 per meal. Call 235-3567 and 767-5922 for Kosher meals.
Consumer Protection- The center has a counselor to assist you in any problems with a business. If you feel you have been wronged or have a problem that you need the assistance of a mediator please contact the center for an appointment.

Senior Cards: Senior Identification cards are available upon request at the Center director's office. The card, when affixed with a picture, may be used for identification purposes or as a senior discount card where applicable. The Davison High School provides us with cards for the purpose of admission to school sporting events. These cards are also available from the director
Alzheimer's Support Group: This support group meets at the Center on the 2nd Friday of every month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This group is for family and friends of persons with Alzheimer's disease. For more information call the local chapter at 767-3737.
Health Information: We schedule different health related workshops and seminars throughout the year, as well as speakers on health related topics. They are advertised in the monthly newsletter and posted on the bulletin board.

Grief Support Group: This support group meets here the 3rd Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m.
The following support groups meet in Genesee County: 3 R's Stroke Program, Al-Anon, Alcoholics Anonymous, Alliance for the Mentally Ill, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Narcolepsy Association, American Paralysis Association, American Parkinson's Association, Arthritis Foundation, Asthma Support Group, Breast Cancer Support Group, Chronic Fatique Support Group, Divorce Support Group, Helping Hands, Hemophilia Support Group, etc. For more information on where and when they meet, call the Center.
Prostate Cancer Screening: Prostate Cancer in men over fifty is quite common. It is important that you have a blood test yearly. If you can't afford to have it done at the doctor's office there are regular scheduled clinics around Genesee County, our center being one site. Tax Assistance: During tax season volunteers offer free help with filing state, federal, home-heating, prescription drug, and homestead exempt forms. Appointments are available on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. from February 2 through April 13. Call the Center at 658-1566 to make an appointment.
Housing Loans Available: Housing loans are available to homeowners 62+ who meet the following income guidelines: 1 person is $15,000, 2 is $17,000, and 3 is $19,000. Rural area only. For more information contact Roosevelt Gayles at 230-8766.
Senior Dental Program: The Michigan Dental Association provides free comprehensive dental care to eligible senior citizens over 65. All care is provided by licensed Michigan dentists. For more information and qualifications of this program, call Wanda Kester at 1-800-255-7543. The Dental Hygiene School at Mott Community College offers low cost teeth cleaning.
Farmers Home Administration Loans: Loans are provided at 1% on home repairs such as roofs, windows, ramps, etc. through the 504 Loans Grant Program. For more information call Roosevelt Gayles at 230-8766.
MMAP Program: The Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program has volunteers available to assist you with questions on bills or statements received from Medicare, counseling on Medigap insurances, help to apply for Medicaid or the QMB Program, or any other problem you may have questions about in this area. To make an appointment or for more information call the Center at 658-1566. Our MMAP counseler will meet with you at the Center.
Lions Club Offers Hearing Aids: The Lions Club is sponsoring a program for those who can't afford hearing aids. They are also looking for used hearing aids that can be cleaned and reconditioned. They will be available at a low cost to anyone in need. For more information call the local Lions at 743-3163.
Advocacy For Senior Health Care: The Center has papers available on advocacy for health care. This is a way of making your own choices in the event of an emergency or death. Forms are available at the Center as well as copies needed.
Senior Aide Program: This is a part time job opportunity for older persons over 55. If you are a resident of Genesee County with a limited income The Senior Aide Program may help you with employment. Applications are taken at the Senior Citizen Services. For more information call 760-1090.
